ENGLISH HOURS James, Henry Great Britain The Orion Press 1960 Second Edition Hardcover Very Good+ with no dust jacket Illustrated by Gross, Anthony 250 pages; Inscribed and signed by editor on first blank page to Virginia Crump. Dark blue covers with wear to corners and spine ends. Inside pages are very good with no writing, marks or tears. Edited with an Introduction by Alma Louise Lowe. Henry James (1843-1916) was famous on both continents and knew the mannerisms and beliefs of the Old World and New. James spent his youth in Europe and New England and lived abroad for many years. He made only a modest living from his books, yet was often the houseguest of the wealthy. While not really one of them, James was able to observe them at close range. (He said he got some of his best story ideas from dinner table gossip.) He was a homosexual whose tastes and interests were rather feminine, yet who as a male could travel and act with an independence denied the women of his time. Price: 75.00 USD
